Reddo Sushi
This is NOT a sponsored post. If the marketing people @Reddo Sushi are willing to give me a discount I would literally jump over the moon though!
I saw that the Google reviews and hungry go where reviews of Reddo are appallingly low. I come here to eat as often as my meager wallet could afford and I can say that I have NEVER been disappointed. I have brought my skeptical friends and family to this place and they be like "Nice meh? I never heard before" but they too leave a happy, full person. How I found the place is honestly very accidental. I'm not a picky eater. BUT when I am paying, I can be very picky. Thus, I am not likely to walk into a random restaurant, especially if I never heard of it, it looks empty or I do not get any ambiance from looking at it. Reddo happened to be all that.
Picture this, a hungry, grumpy girlfriend that was craving sushi in bugis. Yet, said girlfriend doesn't like Genki (sorry) and has a HUGE distaste for anything MOF related (sorry, not sorry). Le boyfriend bit a bullet and dragged me into this stall which I thought for the longest time: "how do they survive".
The service was commendable and the spread was relatively large. I was drawn to the salmon-crab-aburi-mentaiko sushi rolls thing they were selling, the aburi sushi platter and deciding to go big or go home, the ever so dubious soft shell chili crab pasta. The food took some time, but I appreciate that. At least I know they are not just tossing my food into the microwave.
The wait was totally WORTH IT. The sushi came drizzled (except the aburi platter) in sauce that was not overwhelming and very delicious. If you have tried Koh grill & sushi bar's Shiok maki, you would know that it is nice. However, I would say I prefer Reddo's as the sauce was not as overwhelming and I could taste the smokiness from the aburi as well as the freshness of the sashimi fish that were generously laid over the sushi rice. The chili crab pasta was interesting as I the not-so-pasta-loving-person really enjoyed it but my pasta-loving boyfriend would rather order just sushi after the first time.
The food can be pricey, but in Singapore, what good Japanese food isn't? In fact I would say Reddo is one of the most value-for-money places that I have ever eaten yet. I have never stopped thanking my boyfriend from forcing me to give the place a try. As much as I would love to keep this place a hidden gem and prevent it from developing those long snaking queues like Sushi Tei, I reasoned that I rather queue than have this place go down without people giving it a chance.
Reddo Sushi is at Bugis Plus+, just behind Poulet and opposite the Korean food place. I believe that it is on level 4 (?) where most of the restaurants are. If you are up for trying a new sushi place, or just want to eat somewhere in the busy Bugis area without a queue (T.T) do give Reddo a chance. Order one of the sushi rolls, I hope you would enjoy the food as much as I did!
